STANDARDS AND QUALIFICATIONS
ACHIEVED

ROYAL COLLEGE OF VETERINARY SURGEONS (RCVS) – TIER 3 VETERINARY HOSPITAL.

Moor Cottage has been regularly and independently inspected by the RCVS every four years for the past twenty years to maintain its status of Veterinary Hospital. This is the highest possible level for a UK veterinary establishment. Only 1 in 10 UK practices achieve this standard and can call themselves a Veterinary Hospital. The majority of Veterinary Practices in this country are only just becoming part of an independently examined accreditation system.

The issues covered range from Health and Safety factors to the level and quality of equipment present; from having staff present 24 hours of the day to the amount of staff training and further education provided. More on what all this means to you and your pet can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions section

BSAVA (BRITISH SMALL ANIMAL VETERINARY ASSOCIATION) STANDARDS

These standards have now been amalgamated into the RCVS tier system (Tier 2 level) but were until recently the only other inspected system for Veterinary practice in the UK. These concentrated more on the legal requirements of Veterinary Practice but it was mandatory to pass these before we could be accredited with the status of Veterinary Hospital.

NURSE TRAINING PRACTICE

The veterinary nursing NVQ qualification require a lot of hard work from the student and a great deal of support from the practice. To maintain our Training Practice status we have independent inspections at least annually to check on our general standards of equipment, premises and support materials as well as making sure that we have suitably qualified staff available to tutor the trainees and mark their Portfolios. Specific periods of time have to be allocated to these staff and their trainees for this work and training.

INVESTORS IN PEOPLE

We are very proud to have received this award, in May 2002. More recently we have been reaccredited with “flying colours” in July 2004.

Through IIP our staff benefit from a clear understanding of our aims and a continuous striving for further training and development. All of this benefits our clients by making sure that the team is very much up to date in all the areas that we cover. It helps maintain and push forward our high standards and possibly most important of all, it encourages staff long term – which helps to maintain good continuity for everyone.
